Tasting Notes"I am tempted to say the 2011 Barolo Rocche is another surprise, especially for attendees who had not tasted it yet. Soaring aromatics, silky tannins and vibrant, saline notes all make the 2011 absolutely delicious today. The 2011 will be even better in time, but it is a terrific example of contemporary Barolo that does not need to be cellared for years or decades to deliver pleasure. 95+ points" Antonio Galloni, May 2016

Tasting Notes"The 2012 Barolo Le Vigne, here in a library release, is still a very young wine. Bright acids lift a core of red fruit in a Barolo that impresses with its vibrancy. Spice, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender open with a bit of time in the glass. The 2012 showed quite a bit of potential as a young wine, now, that potential is really starting to come through. This is a terrific showing. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2012 Barolo Ravera is once again a star. Finely cut and chiseled throughout, the 2012 boasts striking precision and nuance. Rose petal, chalk, white pepper, cranberry and pomegranate burst forward in a brilliant, exceptionally polished Barolo built on pure, sculpted elegance. Over the last few years Vietti has done a tremendous job in taming the intense Ravera tannins while preserving all of the focus that makes the wines from this site so alluring. The Ravera has been fabulous on the two occassions I have tasted it so far. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, November 2015

Tasting Notes"The 2016 Barbaresco Gallina is a gorgeous wine full of the classic, youthful austerity that is such a signature of the house style. Deceptive in its light to medium-bodied feel, the Gallina offers up striking Nebbiolo aromatics redolent of crushed red berry fruit, spice, mint and rose petal. Nervy tannins lend energy and drive. The translucent beauty of Nebbiolo is so alluring. What a great start to this tasting. 94 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2016 Barolo Pira is a gorgeous, complex wine endowed with terrific depth and tons of nuance that continues to open over time. Light on its feet and yet wonderfully deep, the 2016 has so much going on. Kirsch, sweet red cherry, spice, orange zest, menthol and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. Young Barolo tannins are present, but there is plenty of richness in the fruit to keep things in balance. The Pira is absolutely stellar in this tasting. 95 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2018 Camarcanda is a rich, dense wine that marries the natural intensity of the Tuscan Coast with the greater sense of energy the estate's wines have today. A blast of dark cherry, plum, espresso, menthol and licorice infuses the 2018 with notable depth that continues to build over time. 94 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"Impenetrable dark purple-crimson. Blackberry-blueberry with chalky cassis notes and plum. Crushed-blackberry palate with soft tannins and a supple dark-fruit finish. More medium- than full-bodied. Lots of freshness and cool-climate character. Drink date 2020-2030. 17+ points" jancisrobinson.com (WS)------"An 80-20 blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, the Ca' Marcanda 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is another gorgeous edition of this important wine, although this vintage does start off slower than some of the other wines in this vertical. The wine is initially shy or restrained, with earthy and herbal sensations that frame dark fruit and blackberry. However, the bouquet also proves quite fluid, and it shifts to darker plum and spice with a few quick swirls of the glass. That substantial fruit intensity holds well from start to finish. Drink date 2023-2040. 95 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com------"The 2018 Camarcanda is lifted with medicinal herbs, balsamic, and fresh mint. It is youthful with baby fat now but is more lifted overall compared to the previous two vintages of 2017 and 2016. It offers elegant and fine tannins, with notes of black raspberry, strawberry, violets, and a long and tapered finish that is more about its stony mineral texture than the length and concentration of its fruit. Drink 2024-2044. Maturity 2024-2044. 96 points" Audrey Frick, Jebdunnuck.com

Tasting Notes"Concentrated mid ruby with orange tinges. Savoury rather than fruity and with brooding concentration. Aromatic sweet-sour, cherry-fruit palate lined with grainy deep tannins. Long and tactile. Can age. 17 points." (WS) Jancisrobinson.com------“The 2020 estate Brunello is an absolute charmer. Exotically scented, it leads with spiced persimmon, arbutus bush and heady lavender. Appetising and accessible, the palate is packed with glossy, almost candied fruit, and there is a fullness of flavour without being heavy. Fine, powdery tannins dissolve fluently, exposing a juicy core of succulent blood orange. Impossible not to like. Best Value Brunello 2020. 93 points” (MM) Decanter Magazine------"The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is decidedly savory and intense, with notes of tobacco, wilted violets, dusty earth and ashen stones. It flows across the palate with ease, drenched in primary concentration, soft-textured and round, offset by a core of tart wild berries. A tinge of spice slowly saturates the nose toward the close, tapering off staining and long, with a balanced tannic inflection that promises many years of balanced maturation. 2026-2036. 93 points" (EG) Vinous, No '23------"Here's a nicely balanced Brunello that boasts bright cherry fruit intensity despite the many years of cellar aging required by the appellation. The Argiano 2020 Brunello di Montalcino offers a robust layer of red and purple berry fruits along with soft spice, grilled herb and sweet potting soil. There is a slightly botanical element to the wine with green herb and dried lavender. The wine is made with fruit from old and new vines, ranging in age from 12 to 55 years old. The tannins are very fine-grained, and the acidity is present to good effect but is not too sharp. This is an ample 104,000-bottle release. 2025-2038. 94 points." (ML) Wine Advocate

Tasting Notes“Deep ruby. Pure, concentrated red fruit and sweet raspberry nose that is still not entirely open. Hints of black pepper. Compact cherry and raspberry-fruit palate and still embryonic. Really fine yet still austere fruit filled with finely ground tannins Very long and focused but far from ready. Real potential for ageing here, which it also needs. 17.5 points." Walter Speller, Dec '24, JancisRobinson.com------“From galestro-rich soils, the Conti Costanti 2020 Brunello di Montalcino offers a full bouquet of sweet fruit and spice. The wine is plump and rich in personality with sweet tannins and some phenolic heft due to the warm growing conditions. However, its velvety texture and full-bodied approach offer enough padding to smooth it over”. 94 points." Monica Larner, Nov '24, Robertparker.com------“The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino clocks in at 14.4% alcohol, the highest alcohol level ever achieved at the winery. It's also the most concentrated wine Andrea Costanti has ever produced, boasting high levels of dry extract and polyphenols, all balanced by a significant 5.8 grams per liter of residual acidity. This is a vibrant and complex effort, bursting with aromas of crushed cherries, autumnal spices, cedar and dried blood oranges. It's juicy and concentrated on the palate, with layers of tart red berries and crunchy mineral tones. Bracing acidity adds a lively, spicy edge while it finishes long and resonant, with sweet-and-sour notes and lingering hints of licorice. This will undoubtedly benefit from further aging. 95 points”. Eric Guido, Nov '24, Vinous.com------“The 2020 Brunello from Costanti is an absolute stunner. All about fragrance, flavor and finesse, the elegant palate opens with captivating aromas of iris, violet, perfumed berry, dark spice, whiffs of forest floor and eucalyptus that on the palate transform into wild cherry, raspberry compote, licorice, grilled rosemary and truffle. Tightly knit, velvety tannins provide seamless support while fresh acidity provides impeccable balance. A salty note lingers on the persistent finish. 98 points”. Tasting Notes#9 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2024: "This effusive red displays cherry, raspberry, rose, iron, juniper and hay flavors, underscored by vibrant acidity. Harmonious and supple in texture, with a long aftertaste of red fruit, mineral and floral elements. Best from 2028 through 2049. 94 points" Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator------"The 2020 Barolo Albe is light-bodied, elegant and gracious. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, spice, new leather and dried herbs are all nicely lifted. Bright acids and nervy tannins give the wine its shape and overall character. The Albe is meant to be an entry-level offering, but I find it often blossoms with a year or two in bottle. The Albe is not terribly complex in 2020, but it is a delight. 90 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"This is a bright and lively Barolo showing sliced oranges, raspberries, crushed stones and rose petals on the nose. Medium-bodied, with sharp acidity and tight tannins. Lots of energy. Try from 2027. 93 points" jamessuckling.com------"You can't beat this value. The G.D. Vajra 2020 Barolo Albe is buttoned up with fresh primary fruit, and the wine does not have that hint of over-ripeness that is found across this vintage. The fruit is dark and savory, and there is a big mineral component to match, but the bouquet is nicely redolent of dark currant, plum, granite and a raspy dry note that brings crushed shale to mind. The tannins are quite impactful, and they give this wine extra runway for moderate bottle aging. 2025-2038. 94 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com points

Tasting Notes"Deep crimson. Enticing, deep red-fruit nose with hints of white pepper and leather. Succulent red fruit, with the finely. 17.5 points." Walter Speller, March 2024, JancisRobinson.com------"The 2021 Chianti Classico is classic wine from the estate, done in the more restrained style that has become the norm here of late. There's plenty of Panzano richness, but more energy and less heaviness than what was common just a few years ago. Giovanni Manetti and his team have given the Chianti Classico gorgeous refinement. Spice, flowers, mocha and blue fruits linger, all wrapped together by ultra-finessed tannins. The 2021 spent 20-22 months in barrel—65% cask and 35% neutral French oak barriques. 94 points." Antonio Galloni, June 2024, Vinous.com------"Emblematic of the exceptional quality offered at Chianti Classic’ s annata level, Fontodi’s 2021 over-delivers yet again, exuding the wild, tousled, arid Tuscan countryside on a backdrop of dark, layered fruit. Hints of coffee and liquorice ripple through concentrated black cherry and blackberry. With ripe, gravelly tannins, this shows the power of the vintage without being forceful and maintains charismatic energy throughout. It's worth waiting a few more months before tucking in, but properly cellared, this will easily keep delivering for a decade. 94 points." Michaela Morris, June 2024, Decanter.com

Tasting Notes"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is an absolute stunner. Deep, layered, and explosive, it captures all of this year's magic in spades. Black cherry, lavender, mocha, spice, and licorice all soar out of the glass. A wine of statuesque beauty and elegance, it is utterly mesmerizing. I would be in no rush to drink it. The 2021 spent 14-15 months in barrique (25% new) and then 7-8 months in cask. 97 points." Antonio Galloni, June 2024, Vinous.com------"The Sorbo vineyard sits just below the winery on schistous Galestro soil between 400 and 450 metres and boasts 50- to 60-year-old vines. Owner Giovanni Manetti says it is the same team that has harvested this plot for years. The 2021 spent 15 months in barriques followed by nine in large casks, and unfurls leisurely from a smoky incense overlay through dusty, sunbaked earth to black cherry. Virile and sturdy, the palate packs in dense fruit, glimpses of clove and cedar, and pops with blackcurrant purity. A clayey, terracotta-like texture accompanies generous chewy tannins. Plenty here for a long rest in the cellar. 97 points." Michaela Morris, June 2024,Decanter.com------"Now boasting the proud Panzano UGA on the front label, the Fontodi 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Panzano Vigna del Sorbo is a little more delicate, even subdued, compared to its new brother, the more exuberant Terrazze San Leonlino. Vigna del Sorbo is a little more tuned in on itself, aromatically speaking, but reveals just enough complexity and sheer beauty to believe in the promise of its future aging potential. Even now, tasted so young, the wine's pedigree is evident. It excels in terms of complexity and depth. The tannins are velvety soft, and soft mineral aromas add focus. This certified expression of Sangiovese comes from a single parcel within the sun-drenched Conca d'Oro basin of vines that distinguishes Panzano. The Vigna del Sorbo stands out as one of my favorite wines from this region made in 2021. 98+ points." Monica Larner, June 2024,WineAdvocate.com

Tasting Notes"Featuring a deep well of blackberry, black cherry, violet, mineral and spices on the nose, this red is rich and dense, saturated with dark fruit flavors, yet with a sense of gracefulness. A light dusting of tannins frames the finish, needing a few years to integrate with the other components. Shows the harmony, freshness and depth of the vintage. 97 points." Bruce Sanderson,WineSpectator.com------"The 2021 Flaccianello della Pieve is another exceptional wine from Fontodi this year. Ripe, silky tannins wrap around a core of dark fruit as the 2021 makes its presence felt from the first taste. Sumptuous, racy and dense, this is just magnificent. As has been the case for some time, Flaccianello is a blend of mostly three parcels throughout the estate but closer to town. 98 points." Antonio Galloni, June 2024,Vinous.com------"The Fontodi 2021 Flaccianello della Pieve opens to a medium-dark inky appearance and solid aromas of black fruit and pressed blackberry. The Flaccianello is a touch more accessible at this early stage compared to the Vigna del Sorbo, but both wines are undoubtedly built to withstand ample cellar aging. Flaccianello is the more powerful of the two, and the Vigna del Sorbo is more delicate in comparison. These dueling character traits are especially evident in this classic 2021 vintage. This wine also boasts a more generous mouthfeel supported by softly integrated tannins. 98 points." Monica Larner, June 2024,WineAdvocate.com

Tasting Notes"The 2021 Ca' Marcanda is a fabulous wine from the Gaja family, the best they have ever made at their Bolgheri property. The wines here have been through some ups and downs, but there seems to be greater focus over these last few years. Silky, aromatic and wonderfully pure, the 2021 Camarcanda offers a super, contemporary expression of Bolgheri with plenty of coastal sunshine and warmth, but nothing excessive. Silky tannins frame the exceptionally polished, nuanced finish. The 2021 is so alluring. 97 points."  Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 24------“The Ca' Marcanda 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in a supporting role. This a bold and beautifully concentrated wine with a brilliant character that is best described as Rubenesque. It shows supple texture and deep richness supported by sweet fruit and raspberry tart. The ripe, well-managed tannins cede to tingling freshness that adds energy and life.  97 points."   Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 24------“Bottled in July of 2022, the 2021 Ca' Marcanda has a dark saturated ruby hue and seamless aromatics of graphite, black cherry liqueur, cocoa powder, and forest herbs. Full-bodied on the palate, with great structure, focus and length, and wonderful richness, it’s incredibly even in its balance and has a very long finish. It’s going to need a few years to improve and show its best, but this is a remarkable wine from this stunning vintage. Drink 2026-2046.  97 points."  Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com, Jan 24

Tasting Notes"The Ornellaia 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia offers an extra layer of richness, generosity and plushness that shapes a very open-knit and exuberant Tuscan red. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. You feel the fruit and oak weight of the wine, the extract and the 15% alcohol content. All of these elements come together to big effect. From that power, you get black cherry, dark fruit, sweet spice and barbecue smoke. The fruit tannins are young, and this edition of Ornellaia proves worthy for medium or long-term drinking, especially as it softens up with more bottle age. 96 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com------"Ornellaia stands as proof, if it were needed, that Bordeaux varieties can really deliver magic in the Tuscan landscape. Blackberry, underbrush, dried roses, bay leaf, liqourice, fennel, raspberries, layers of baking spice, balsamic, turmeric and saffran. Will benefit from a few years more in bottle, and will go for decades. Director Axel Heinz in one of his last vintages, winemaker Olga Fusari. 119ha estate. 70% new oak, with the blend taking place after 12 months ageing, then left for a further six months in barrel, and 12 months in bottle before release. 97 points" janeanson.com------"Aromas of blackcurrants, iodine, crushed stone, hints of mint and sage. Blue fruits. Full-bodied with chewy tannins that open with air. It’s racy and very long. Very tannin driven and energetic with power and focus. Muscular and very toned. This is the best Ornellaia for the cellar in years. Try after 2030. 99 points" jamessuckling.com------"The 2021 Ornellaia captures all the magic of this sensational vintage on the Tuscan Coast. Rich, ample and expansive, with tremendous polish, the 2021 is pure class. Dark-toned fruit, mocha, espresso, licorice, plum and dried herbs abound. The tannins are present but also beautifully integrated, as is the French oak. There was a time not too long ago when young wines here needed years in bottle to drink well. That's not at all the case with the 2021. The blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot works so well. Tasting Notes" Aromas of blackcurrants, dark cherries, chocolate, ground spices and crushed rocks. Medium- to full-bodied with compact but supple and polished tannins. Shows savory notes with hints of dried mushrooms and chocolate. Attractive with a lingering finish. Drink or hold. 93 points" jamessuckling.com------"The 2021 Guidalberto, San Guido's blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is soft, succulent and alluring right out of the gate. The supple contours of Merlot lend fleshiness to this mid-weight, racy Maremma blend. Ripe red cherry fruit, spice, leather and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. Best of all, the 2021 will drink well right out of the gate. 93 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the Tenuta San Guido 2021 Guidalberto shows tart cherry fruit with darker tones of blackberry and plum. This vintage delivers especially chiseled and focused fruit characteristics that are elegantly framed by light spice, cola and earth. This vintage shows a heightened sense of intensity and territorial identity that is the hallmark of this storied estate. 94 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com

Tasting Notes"The aromatics are sweet and fragrant, with crushed damson plum, grilled sandalwood, leather, gourmet edged, easy to sink into, and extremely well made. Higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than in previous vintages of Volte, aged in barrels that were first used for Ornellaia. Director Axel Heinz left half way through this vintage, winemaker Olga Fusari skilfully brings it home. 119ha estate. 92 points" janeanson.com

Tasting Notes"The 2022 Ornellaia is a terrific wine for the year. Dark red-toned fruit, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice all take shape in a mid-weight, pliant Ornellaia that is quite alluring, even in the early going. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot, unusual for the elevated presence of Petit Verdot, which did better than Franc in 2022. The higher percentage of Petit Verdot comes through in the wine's dark leaning personality and also in the quality of tannins. More than anything else, the 2022 is a reminder of how important a tool blending is, especially in challenging years. I can't wait to see how this ages. The 2022 Ornellaia is clearly among the most successful wines of the vintage. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"A Mediterranean-style wine. Stunning elegance on the nose, with vibrant dried eucalyptus leaves, flowers, restrained brambleberries and hints of black cherries, dried bananas, milk chocolate, cloves and graphite. The palate is full-bodied with elegant tannins and a touch of dust. It’s savory and well packed, with integrated, brilliant freshness and a ripe, fruity finish with a toasty aftertaste of blond tobacco. Try from 2026. 97 points" jamessuckling.com------"Tasted a few months after it was bottled, the Ornellaia 2022 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia will be coming to market in March 2025. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine sees 18 months of aging with up to 70% new oak, but the trick, proprietor Lamberto Frescobaldi tells me, is drawing from a large group of coopers with different toast levels and forests. "I don't want to make a wine of any one tonnellerie," he says. The oak element is crucial to the identity of this wine that reveals dark fruit, blackberry, sweet spice and cinnamon. Most of the vines were planted in the 1980s, and the average age of the plants is over 20 years old. Fruit comes from many parcels, including Bellaria, Bellaria Nuova, Bellaria Alta, Pero, Fosso, Vigna Vecchia and Stallina. Indeed, some 80 wines are made before final blending. The 2022 vintage will be remembered for its full-bodied appeal, concentrated fruit and generous oak renderings. Petit Verdot plays a slightly larger role in this vintage and was one of the surprise hits of 2022. It serves to elongate the wine and adds to its length. The wine's abundant fruit weight cedes to elegantly integrated tannins. This vintage will appeal to die-hard Ornellaia enthusiasts. 97 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com------"One of the few 2022 Tuscan wines where you can really see that this will benefit from a few years in bottle, right now it is, hovering on the edge of something delicious, vibrating over the tannic architecture, feathered, campfire smoke, fennel, blackberry, liquorice and crushed peonies, and the bitter fennel and slate scrape, dense, contrast of textures and flavours like only truly great wines can do, a reflection of skilful construction. A gorgeous wine, slowly stretching out in the palate, 65% new oak for ageing. Harvest began August 9 for the whites, and the reds began August 25 with Masseto, and then a few days later for Ornellaia, one of the earliest on record, with around 38hl/h yield. 99 points" janeanson.com

Tasting NotesThe Calvarino vineyard is in the northwest zone of the Soave Classico area and has been owned by the Pieropan family since 1901. It takes its name, 'little Calvary,' from the steep slope and the difficulty this presents in working the vineyard. Planted with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, its basalt soil is typical in this part of Soave. The vines are organically farmed, aged between 30 and 60 years and planted 200 to 300 metres above sea level at a density of 3,000 vines per hectare.------"The first single-vineyard created here, in the late 18th century. More black soil than in the Soave Classico. This is very good, meshing the inherent ripeness of the vintage with a mineral-infused pungency. Green apples, quince and stone fruit. Yet the feel is linear, cool and taut, with a growing trajectory of fruit sweetness across the long, energetic finish. A pithy exclamation to close.  94 points." Tasting NotesThe southwest-facing vineyard of ‘La Rocca’ takes its name from the adjacent medieval castle and fortress (‘La Rocca’) and is planted at 200-300 metres above sea level. The soils here are unique in Soave, comprising a limestone outcrop (the same soil as in Valpolicella Classico). Pieropan feels that these soils are perfect for ripening Garganega and, as a result, make ‘La Rocca’ exclusively from this variety. First released in 1978, ‘La Rocca’ was the first example of single vineyard Soave, and it has become a definitive symbol of quality and tradition in the region. Vines are spur pruned and cordon trained and 50 years old.------"The only oak-inflected cuvee at the estate. Aged in 100% used tonneaux, both French and Slavonian. Superb aromas of pistachios, peaches and dried mangoes. Broad and expansive, yet funneled into a vortex of tension by freshness that sublimates any sense of obvious power.  A wonderful expression of a warmer vintage that suits perfectly this compelling site. 96 points."  James Suckling, May 2023, JamesSuckling.com

Tasting Notes"The tannins are gentle and integrated even now, while still in barrel, and it provides a striking contrast with many 2022s from this corner of Tuscany, where concentration is the byword. Sassicaia is able to retain acidity even in the hottest summers, and the balsamic and butterscotch notes are beautifully balanced by rosebuds, lavender, red cherries, rosemary, fennel, charred sandalwood and tomato leaf. The frame is in place, and the density offset by a soft textural caress. Sample taken from three barrels, final wine to be shipped in a few months, after a dry vintage helped by a few rains here just before harvest. 40% new oak for ageing, Carlo Paoli director. 2030 -2050. 96 points." Jane Anson, Sep '24------"The Tenuta San Guido 2022 Bolgheri Sassicaia reveals a beautiful fruit profile with fresh blackberry, tart cherry and Mediterranean tones of blue rosemary blooms and lavender sachet. I tasted this wine several times over the course of a few months, and it has already shown a happy evolution coming into slow focus like the faint colors that emerge from a Polaroid photograph. Indeed, the bouquet appeared more closed just a short while ago. The wine's strongest suit is its elegantly streamlined mouthfeel and its contained 13.5% alcohol content. These qualities add to the silky cleanness of the mouthfeel and the accessible freshness of this vintage. I am confident that this bottle will improve with time. It requires patience. 97+ points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com
