Burgundy 2023: Morgon Côte de Py, Jean-Marc Burgaud

"In my mind, and according to my palate for that matter, Jean-Marc Burgaud is the don of Morgon." — Neal Martin, Mar '23, Vinous
The latest release from Jean-Marc Burgaud, the 2023 Morgon Côte de Py, is here – and it’s another outstanding vintage from the ‘don of Morgon.’ This superb red Burgundy has been awarded 92-94 points by Jasper Morris MW, reinforcing Burgaud’s position as a top producer in the region.
Gamay grapes from seven hectares of vines (planted in 1960) on Morgon’s famed Côte du Py hill are grown in schist and decomposed blue rock soils. The gobelet-trained vines are planted at high density to enhance concentration. The whole-bunch grapes are fermented using ‘sémi macération carbonique’ for 12 days, with daily pumping over. The wine is aged in concrete tanks before being bottled in June.
This is a versatile, must-have for your cellar that delivers from day one, bursting with vibrant blackcurrant fruit, floral aromatics, and fresh, dark berries. It’s elegant yet powerful, offering immediate pleasure while also having the potential to age beautifully for decades. A perfect match for a variety of dishes, from game and red meats to fish and rich vegetarian cuisine.
We strongly recommend adding a case to your collection – enjoy a bottle now and experience how it evolves over the coming years.
