We loved the barrel sample we tasted of 2020 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc this year, which seemed as layered and intense as any white Bordeaux we have tasted (including Haut-Brion Blanc). We agree with Galloni, who describes it as "one of the world's great wines, hands down (94-96 points)".
Domaine de Chevalier is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves estate in the commune of Pessac-Léognan. The estate dates to at least the late 17th century. In 1983 it was purchased by the Bernard family and 23 year old Olivier Bernard took charge, expanding the vineyards and carrying out extensive replanting.
Today the estate has 45 hectares under vine, 40 for red grapes and 5 for white. The vineyards are planted to 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot for the red wines and 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon for the white wines.
