2022 Château Chasse Spleen En Primeur

Released en primeur earlier today at £292 per dozen in bond, 2022 Château Chasse-Spleen, from Moulis-en-Médoc, manages to over-deliver in most vintages, much like its near-neighbour, Poujeaux

Jane Anson heaps praise on this new vintage, describing it as "Beautifully poised...excellent quality..." with "a ton of personality, and serious architecture that promises to age well".   At just over £24 per bottle in bond, this is another classic property offering very good value from this vintage.

We are expecting several releases tomorrow, not least Duhart-Milon, but in the meantime, you can review all the wines released so far on our en primeur offers page, here.

Offered en primeur, landing spring 2025.

Magnums available with £15 ex-VAT bottling surcharge, please enquire for other formats.

Landing in spring 2025.

Château Chasse Spleen, Moulis en Médoc

Producer Profile

Château Chasse Spleen, Moulis en Médoc

Château Chasse-Spleen is a Cru Bourgeois estate in Moulis-en-Médoc.  It has a poetic name, with two often-quoted origins.  One story is that during a visit to the château, Lord Byron remarked 'Quel remède pour chasser le spleen` (roughly, 'what a remedy this place is for the blues'! Spleen relating to 'Splenetic'.  The other legend attributes the name to the poet Charles Baudelaire, visiting his artist friend Odilon Redon, a neighbour of Chasse-Spleen and illustrator of “Spleen et Idéal”, a poem by Baudelaire.

The estate is owned and run by Céline Villars Foubet and has been in her family since the 1970s.  The vineyard is halfway between Margaux and Saint-Julien, with a very varied mix of gravel, clay and limestone terroir.  The 92 hectares are planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.
