Visit us in Aldeburgh: Food & Drink and things to do

Many of our customers are based around the UK or over-seas, but take the opportunity to call in to see us when visiting Aldeburgh or the Suffolk Coast.  This can also be a convenient and cost-effective way to collect wines released from bond, which can be done free of charge when collecting from Aldeburgh.

To give you even more reasons to come and see us, we thought we would list some of our favourite things to do and places to eat in Aldeburgh and the surrounding area.

FOOD & DRINK

The Lighthouse - Led by the ever-charming owner Sam Hayes, The Lighthouse has been an institution in Aldeburgh for 25 years and has an excellent wine list, including a small collection of finer wines.

The Suffolk Hotel - Former London restaurateur George Pell (of L'Escargot) came to Aldeburgh during Lockdown and liked it so much, he restored an old hotel and opened The Suffolk, specialising in local, seasonal food, sourcing local fish and superb meats from Salter & King (see below!).  The Suffolk also has an excellent fine wine selection.

Salter & King Butchers - An award-winning butcher, with produce to rival any that we find on our buying trips to wine regions.  Their aged beef is a particular specialty.  They also offer nationwide delivery via their website.

Fish from Aldeburgh Beach - We are lucky to have several working day boats still fishing from Aldeburgh Beach, selling their catch direct, from their huts.  The Reuben William is closest to us, by the North Lookout Tower.  The fisherman is also one of the helms of the Aldeburgh Lifeboat.  A little further along the beach, Dean Fryer also has an excellent reputation.  Opening times are season and weather dependant, as is the catch.  Fresh lobster, crab, sea bass, cod and sole can all be found at various times of the year.

ART & CULTURE

The Aldeburgh Bookshop - Another local institution, an independent bookshop which is also a beacon for local authors, with numerous book launches and readings throughout the year.

Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall - the original home of the Aldeburgh Music Festival founded by Benjamin Britten, now home to a lively programme of independent theatre and music productions.

Britten Pears Arts - Based at Snape Maltings, a few miles outside of Aldeburgh, the home of an internationally famous concert hall, with a year-round programme of classical and modern music.
