Tasting Notes"The aromatics are sweet and fragrant, with crushed damson plum, grilled sandalwood, leather, gourmet edged, easy to sink into, and extremely well made. Higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than in previous vintages of Volte, aged in barrels that were first used for Ornellaia. Director Axel Heinz left half way through this vintage, winemaker Olga Fusari skilfully brings it home. 119ha estate. 92 points" janeanson.com

Tasting Notes"The 2022 Ornellaia is a terrific wine for the year. Dark red-toned fruit, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice all take shape in a mid-weight, pliant Ornellaia that is quite alluring, even in the early going. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot, unusual for the elevated presence of Petit Verdot, which did better than Franc in 2022. The higher percentage of Petit Verdot comes through in the wine's dark leaning personality and also in the quality of tannins. More than anything else, the 2022 is a reminder of how important a tool blending is, especially in challenging years. I can't wait to see how this ages. The 2022 Ornellaia is clearly among the most successful wines of the vintage. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"A Mediterranean-style wine. Stunning elegance on the nose, with vibrant dried eucalyptus leaves, flowers, restrained brambleberries and hints of black cherries, dried bananas, milk chocolate, cloves and graphite. The palate is full-bodied with elegant tannins and a touch of dust. It’s savory and well packed, with integrated, brilliant freshness and a ripe, fruity finish with a toasty aftertaste of blond tobacco. Try from 2026. 97 points" jamessuckling.com------"Tasted a few months after it was bottled, the Ornellaia 2022 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia will be coming to market in March 2025. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine sees 18 months of aging with up to 70% new oak, but the trick, proprietor Lamberto Frescobaldi tells me, is drawing from a large group of coopers with different toast levels and forests. "I don't want to make a wine of any one tonnellerie," he says. The oak element is crucial to the identity of this wine that reveals dark fruit, blackberry, sweet spice and cinnamon. Most of the vines were planted in the 1980s, and the average age of the plants is over 20 years old. Fruit comes from many parcels, including Bellaria, Bellaria Nuova, Bellaria Alta, Pero, Fosso, Vigna Vecchia and Stallina. Indeed, some 80 wines are made before final blending. The 2022 vintage will be remembered for its full-bodied appeal, concentrated fruit and generous oak renderings. Petit Verdot plays a slightly larger role in this vintage and was one of the surprise hits of 2022. It serves to elongate the wine and adds to its length. The wine's abundant fruit weight cedes to elegantly integrated tannins. This vintage will appeal to die-hard Ornellaia enthusiasts. 97 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com------"One of the few 2022 Tuscan wines where you can really see that this will benefit from a few years in bottle, right now it is, hovering on the edge of something delicious, vibrating over the tannic architecture, feathered, campfire smoke, fennel, blackberry, liquorice and crushed peonies, and the bitter fennel and slate scrape, dense, contrast of textures and flavours like only truly great wines can do, a reflection of skilful construction. A gorgeous wine, slowly stretching out in the palate, 65% new oak for ageing. Harvest began August 9 for the whites, and the reds began August 25 with Masseto, and then a few days later for Ornellaia, one of the earliest on record, with around 38hl/h yield. 99 points" janeanson.com

Tasting Notes"The 2022 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is everything a second wine should be. Open-knit and racy, the 2022 caresses the palate with succulent red fruit. Floral and spice notes with a kick of blood orange open the wine nicely on the mid-palate and into the finish. Soft, silky tannins wrap it all together. This stylish red from Ornellaia is ready to go.  92 points."  Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec '24------"The Ornellaia 2022 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc that saw 15 months in barrique with one-third new oak. Following in the general Ornellaia philosophy, the team has been leaning off long maceration times for more delicate extraction. Blending for this wine usually occurs 12 months after fermentation. This vintage is structured and rich with sweet tannins and a supple texture. This hot vintage brings more fruit weight for sure, but the wine remains fresh and well balanced overall.  2025-2037.  94 points."  Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb '25------"The brightness and purity of fruit is so beautiful here, showing flowers and currants. Very aromatic. Lots of finesse and focus on the medium-bodied palate with super-fine tannins and a lovely finish. Lively....Why wait on this?  95 points."  James Suckling, Jul '24

Tasting NotesThe Calvarino vineyard is in the northwest zone of the Soave Classico area and has been owned by the Pieropan family since 1901. It takes its name, 'little Calvary,' from the steep slope and the difficulty this presents in working the vineyard. Planted with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, its basalt soil is typical in this part of Soave. The vines are organically farmed, aged between 30 and 60 years and planted 200 to 300 metres above sea level at a density of 3,000 vines per hectare.------"The first single-vineyard created here, in the late 18th century. More black soil than in the Soave Classico. This is very good, meshing the inherent ripeness of the vintage with a mineral-infused pungency. Green apples, quince and stone fruit. Yet the feel is linear, cool and taut, with a growing trajectory of fruit sweetness across the long, energetic finish. A pithy exclamation to close.  94 points." Tasting NotesThe southwest-facing vineyard of ‘La Rocca’ takes its name from the adjacent medieval castle and fortress (‘La Rocca’) and is planted at 200-300 metres above sea level. The soils here are unique in Soave, comprising a limestone outcrop (the same soil as in Valpolicella Classico). Pieropan feels that these soils are perfect for ripening Garganega and, as a result, make ‘La Rocca’ exclusively from this variety. First released in 1978, ‘La Rocca’ was the first example of single vineyard Soave, and it has become a definitive symbol of quality and tradition in the region. Vines are spur pruned and cordon trained and 50 years old.------"The only oak-inflected cuvee at the estate. Aged in 100% used tonneaux, both French and Slavonian. Superb aromas of pistachios, peaches and dried mangoes. Broad and expansive, yet funneled into a vortex of tension by freshness that sublimates any sense of obvious power.  A wonderful expression of a warmer vintage that suits perfectly this compelling site. 96 points."  James Suckling, May 2023, JamesSuckling.com

Tasting Notes"The tannins are gentle and integrated even now, while still in barrel, and it provides a striking contrast with many 2022s from this corner of Tuscany, where concentration is the byword. Sassicaia is able to retain acidity even in the hottest summers, and the balsamic and butterscotch notes are beautifully balanced by rosebuds, lavender, red cherries, rosemary, fennel, charred sandalwood and tomato leaf. The frame is in place, and the density offset by a soft textural caress. Sample taken from three barrels, final wine to be shipped in a few months, after a dry vintage helped by a few rains here just before harvest. 40% new oak for ageing, Carlo Paoli director. 2030 -2050. 96 points." Jane Anson, Sep '24------"The Tenuta San Guido 2022 Bolgheri Sassicaia reveals a beautiful fruit profile with fresh blackberry, tart cherry and Mediterranean tones of blue rosemary blooms and lavender sachet. I tasted this wine several times over the course of a few months, and it has already shown a happy evolution coming into slow focus like the faint colors that emerge from a Polaroid photograph. Indeed, the bouquet appeared more closed just a short while ago. The wine's strongest suit is its elegantly streamlined mouthfeel and its contained 13.5% alcohol content. These qualities add to the silky cleanness of the mouthfeel and the accessible freshness of this vintage. I am confident that this bottle will improve with time. It requires patience. 97+ points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com

Tasting Notes"The 2023 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is a total delight. Fresh, aromatic and vibrant, Ornellaia's Sang-ovese-based blend delivers the goods in an affordable package. A burst of bright, red-toned fruit opens first, fol owed by scents of tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. This classy, polished red is very nicely done. There's a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend these days, and it works quite well.  2024-2029.  90 points."  Antonio Galloni, Dec '24------"A blanket of crushed rose petals on the opening beats, good lift and freshness here, love the raspberry fruits. This is a great value entry to the Ornellaia range, and more appealing than many Super Tuscans that are many times the price - a real buy, and one of the secrets of Tuscany in my opinion. Earthy, spicy, fruity, fresh, neutral barrels for 10 months. Lighter bottle as of this 2023 vintage. 92 points."  Jane Anson
