Tasting Notes"Saturated ruby-purple, possibly the darkest wine I tasted in Burgundy in November. Superripe aromas of kirsch, black raspberry and violet; distinctly liqueur-like. Huge and dense, with almost confectionery sweetness. The wine's texture reminded me of cabernet yet it's vibrant and not at all monolithic or heavy. Powerful underlying structure. Finishes very long; the huge tannins are ripe and chewy. These vines were the most affected by rot in '98 and required the most severe triage, says Ambroise, who believes this wine will age for a very long time. 92+ points" Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com |

Tasting Notes"A very fresh, reserved and notably ripe nose that is highly complex features aromas of red and blue pinot fruit plus discreet floral notes that introduce rich, full and serious medium full flavors that offer fine detail and a subtle touch of backend minerality on the beautifully long finish. As I noted last year from barrel, this is already quite harmonious and now that it's in bottle, the balance is impeccable and this should age well over the medium term, which is to say between 10 and 20 years. Tasting Notes"This is backward and reserved to the point of being taciturn and even aggressive swirling coaxes little from the glass save for glimpses of an intensely sauvage and earthy red berry suffused nose that leads to intensely stony, cool and austere impressively scaled flavors are carved from a block of stone while culminating in a terrifically long, intense and palate staining finish. This is beyond primary and it's classically built and proportioned but be prepared to put it in the cellar and forget it's there for a long while to come.
